In the previous blog article we showed you how to save money on groceries. If you follow some of the above tips you will be saving yourself $100s a month! Now we take these tips further. We look at how to make your groceries go further. These tips are not for the faint hearted, but definitely worth considering if you really have to cut back. As an added bonus, your should become a lot healthier as well!
Tip 1: Cut back on the portion sizes: Cut back on the portions that you eat (normally you will have food left over on your plate) and you will save money. For each meal try and have the major item as vegetables or rice, and meat as a supplement. If you do this you will over $15 month.
Tip 2: Go meatless one day a week: Meat is an expensive item on your shopping list. Don’t worry, there are 1000s of great vegetarian recipes around that will excite your taste buds. If you go without meat one day a week you will save yourself around $20-$30 a month.
Tip 3: Buy meat by the hoof: This tip is not for the faint hearted, and to be honest not something that we would do, but it can result in saving a lot of money. Your savings will be in the vicinity of 40-50 percent when compared to buying meat at a normal butcher or in a supermarket.
Tip 4: Start eating a stone age diet: First question…what is a stone-age diet? It is basically a natural diet, where you eliminate as much packet foods, artificial colors, flavors and preservatives as you can. Instead of eating packet foods, you stick to very natural ingredients, and try to make most things yourself. You save money because you are not paying for packaging, as an added bonus you will be a lot healthier. Potentially savings are around $30 a month.
