A few days ago, the big gun Microsoft launched the Lumia 650 smartphone running Windows 10 Mobile new generation platform ahead of MWC 2016. This event is not only a mark that Microsoft wants to bequeath with its last Lumia, but also a sudden whack at mid-range mobile phone area.
Basically, Windows 10 Mobile platform brought to Lumia 650 a lot of features, and valuable improvements. In particular, the machine is highly appreciated by users due to owning a price of just 199 dollars, equivalent to about 4.5 million. However, good price does not help Lumia 650 get rid of the recent criticisms.
Specifically, according to the announcement from Microsoft, Lumia 650 launched in 2016 but not equipped with the renowned feature Continuum, helping turn this smartphone into a personal computer if accompanied by adequate supporting accessories such as Display Dock, screen and some wires, other connections.
Immediately, this announcement was encountered with many dissents from users. Some users said they were deeply disappointed with the decision by Microsoft. Because with the Lumia 650, they absolutely did not expect too many configuration parameters or camera experience, what they needed was the Continuum.
Meanwhile, others expressed determination, said they would switch to other platforms. They thought that Lumia 650 was one of the few mid-range smartphones currently supporting Windows 10 Mobile, but it did not meet the needs of users, and Lumia 950 or 950XL duo were too expensive.
In the face of the aforementioned mixed opinions, Microsoft’s representative was forced to give feedback. Specifically, the representative said that, the configuration was the reason why Lumia 650 smartphone could not be equipped with Continuum feature as expected. In other words, the Lumia 650 was not strong enough to use this feature.
According to the announcement from Microsoft, if users want their smartphone powered Continuum feature, they are forced to buy products that integrate one of three processors, which are Snapdragon 617, Snapdragon 808 or Snapdragon 810. Minimum RAM is 2GB. Therefore, the Lumia 650 does not qualify.
Microsoft also said that the reason they did not equip Lumia 650 with Continuum was that they wanted to ensure a good price for this smartphone, as user object that the company targeted at was ordinary users, whom financial capability was still limited. Thus, if wanting Continuum, only users of Lumia 950 or more can experience.
“We are working to bring more smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile platform to users, and especially spread over multiple price ranges. With the Lumia 650, we want to create a device with a good configuration, but price must be in accordance with the present ordinary user object.
With this Lumia, we provide customers with convenient services such as Office, OneDrive and Cortana. Therefore, users still have the opportunity to experience Windows 10 Mobile the most comprehensively. We also encourage users to Continuum over the duo Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL.”
